Pedagogy of Avoidance is an alternative civic learning workshop and framework
that bring about critical reflection and discussions within a safe learning environment for young Thai first-time voters. This project addresses the avoidance and ignorance within Thai pedagogy that creates a distance between what is written and reality.

I aim to encourage young Thais to understand their rights under the constitution, which requires writing it ‘with people,’ not just for people. By doing so, this workshop encourages them to become more critical of the ingrained foundation of their knowledge and understanding and challenge the dominant narratives from Thailand’s Constitutional Monarchy to Constitutional Democracy.
The critical and ethical values and positions I have formed throughout this project is my consistent engagement with bell hook’s Teaching to Transgress. I see myself as a facilitator rather than an instructor, creating a democratic space for criticality and discussions by acknowledging students’ lived experiences, and refuse to impose ideologies but to create an environment for them to form their own judgement.
